All Linda Schindler wanted was enough money for frozen yogurt. “I wanted to be able to afford frozen yogurt at the student union. My husband and I were starving students, living in a $300-a-month apartment in Long Beach… and I wanted frozen yogurt,” she says, laughing. “And boy did I get it!”
Today her goals are much higher. Linda and her husband, Dave, are planning a magnificent outdoor pool—complete with an attached kitchen and a sports court for their children. “I know money cannot buy happiness,” she says, “but it definitely doesn’t hurt. It has been very good to us.” So good in fact, Dave retired last year from his position as an assistant principal at the ripe old age of 44.
With BeautiControl®, Linda’s dreams have come true. Her life has turned out even better than she planned. Linda was a full-time secretary, attending law school at night, when BeautiControl found her. “Someone came into our office and did consultations in the conference room,” Linda remembers. “I walked her out to her car, and I asked her how much money she had made.” The consultant’s answer changed Linda’s life for ever, “I worked 40 hours a week at a job I hated, and it took me 20 hours to earn what she did in two—and she was having a great time!”
Though her goal had been to become an attorney, “to save the world and right the wrongs and help the little guy,” Linda soon realized BeautiControl could help her change people’s lives by showing them the path she followed to success. Today, Linda is paying it forward: “I get to touch so many people’s lives,” she says. “There’s nothing more rewarding than watching the transformation of someone learning they can become successful and knowing they matter, that they make a difference.”

Before joining BeautiControl, Linda wouldn’t have dreamed of speaking in public. But now she says, “Give me a microphone and a thousand people, and I’ll be the happiest person on the planet.” Linda always had confidence in herself and her own abilities, but not in her appearance. “It’s hard for people to see what’s inside when you don’t feel good on the outside,” she says. “I was shy and didn’t have enough confidence in my appearance to allow people to get to know me.” BeautiControl gave Linda the self-confidence she needed. Now she is rewarded further by passing on that confidence to her team. She loves knowing her consultants are fulfilling their dreams; they are the ones changing their lives. And she feels good about her part in their success. “If I hadn’t talked to them about this opportunity, then it wouldn’t be happening for them,” she says. “So I get to pat myself on the back—it feels good.”

The success of the women she leads is one indicator of her own accomplishments. Financial freedom is another. “Honestly, my husband and I look at each other quite often and just wonder what happened,” she laughs. “How do you make this kind of money when you’re having so much fun?”
calling the shots
For Linda, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a BeautiControl consultant is being her own boss. As a secretary, she was required to adhere to someone else’s schedule. And she particularly disliked year-end reviews where her boss would tell her exactly what she did wrong all year and why her increase was a pittance. In effect, Linda says, the job was more important than the person. “You don’t get that in BeautiControl,” she says. “The people come first and you decide when you want to work, where you want to work and how you want to work. It’s all up to you; you write your own paycheck.”
“How do you make this kind of money
when you’re having so much fun?”
Today, Linda calls the shots; she is in control. “You don’t have to check in with anybody if you don’t feel well. You can get up and dance around your office and no one is going to look at you funny. You can play your music loud anytime you want,” she says. “I am in control of whatever I do.” Indeed, sometimes it doesn’t even feel like a job to Linda because she spends so much time at home with her family. “I keep my business very simple. I love my business, but I love my family first.” Some weeks she works 30 hours; others, she doesn’t work at all. The net result: She is in control, and she loves every minute of it. EW’
