Dianne Thompson Senior National
Executive Director - North Carolina
When
Dianne Thompson first
joined BeautiControl, it was so she
could pay her bills and just survive.
But today BeautiControl has far
exceeded Dianne’s expectations. “I
truly believe I am living the American dream,” she
says.
Dianne
grew up on a rural tobacco farm in North Carolina.
Her family didn’t
have indoor plumbing until she was in
high school, and she had to share a
bed with one of her sisters. Most of her
clothes were made from feed sacks.
Everyday, Dianne’s family would rise
at 4 a.m. She would go feed 5,000
chickens, then help her father with his
tobacco crop. She’d take a bath, then
meet the school bus at 7:30 a.m.
“It
was the best decision of my life.”
In
the summers, she would work all day
in the tobacco fields. In the evenings,
there were more chickens to feed,
farm tasks and homework. Some
nights, potatoes were all that they
had for dinner. The fi rst real clothes
Dianne ever had were purchased
from earnings she made selling peas at
the local farmers’ market.
Her father gave them the seeds and
they were responsible for planting,
growing, harvesting and selling them.
Dianne
remembers taking a Bushel of peas to
the farmers’ market. She
was
offered $2 for the bushel. She said, ‘this
was a lot of hard work! I can’t
take
less than $4!’ Well, they paid it.
That
was her first experience in ‘sales!’
As
a little girl, Dianne remembers lying
in
bed at night hearing her parents argue
about money. There was never enough.
She vowed that when she grew up, she
would make things better for them all.
Dianne started focusing on the future
at
a very young age. She worked her way
through school and pursued a career
in
nursing. She didn’t pass her final
nursing exam, but she didn’t let
that stop her. She took it again
and passed. Diane earned a
degree in nursing management
and became a registered nurse.
Eventually,
she became frustrated by the
long hours away from her husband
and
three children. She joined BeautiControl
in 1983 for the flexibility and
freedom
it offered. Even though she was not
skilled in “doing parties,” she
says, “It
was the best decision of my life.”
One
thing Dianne did know was that you can
have anything you want if
you’re focused and determined. And
she possessed the determination
and focus to make her life and the
lives of her family better. She held
parties and learned something from
each one. “Once I realized how
simple this business was, I made
up my mind that I was going to give
this opportunity a shot,” she says.
“As a family we
have lived the American Dream
and my life has been blessed in so many
ways.
My dream home, a beach house, beautiful
jewelry
and trips I would have ever taken because
of the
expense. My children had their college
education
paid for, and now I have set up education
funds
for my grandchildren.”
Looking
back over her years with BeautiControl,
Dianne says that being
recognized and earning rewards is
what
makes this opportunity so different. “I’ll
never forget the day I became
a Unit
VIP. Earning a diamond ring was
one of
my most memorable moments… I had
never earned anything like that
before.”
BeautiControl
has taught Dianne that
you can overcome any challenge —
financial, education, health — to
achieve your dreams. “As a family
we
have lived the American Dream,
and
my life has been blessed in
so many
ways. My dream home, a beach
house
beautiful jewelry and trips
I would have
never taken because of the
expense.
My children had their college
education
paid for, and now I have set
up
education funds for my grandchildren.”
